    Painting. Building.

Gregory Mayer is a multidisciplinary portrait artist who transforms three-dimensional materials into striking two-dimensional imagery. His work challenges the viewer’s perception, forcing the brain to merge color, shape, and depth into a recognizable form. Known for his innovative use of building blocks (Lego), Mayer creates portraits that exist in two distinct visual experiences—clearly defined from a distance, yet abstract and fragmented up close. This interplay between order and chaos invites the viewer to engage with his work from multiple perspectives, both literally and intellectually.

  • Building blocks, building art.

"I create LEGO art that blurs the line between reality and imagination. My work transforms thousands of tiny plastic bricks — an ordinary, almost invisible part of childhood — into striking, highly detailed portraits and scenes. From a distance, my pieces look like photographs. Up close, they reveal the raw, pixelated structure of LEGO itself.

I’m drawn to the tension between precision and imperfection, between digital and handmade. Every piece is built entirely by hand, one brick at a time, embracing both craftsmanship and constraint. My goal is simple: to surprise, to engage, and to make people see something familiar in a completely new way."
